Event Description

Join the Teen Services Librarians for a brand new book discussion especially for teens in grades 9-12! Every two months, we'll discuss a new title and work together to write a letter to the author. This month, we will be reading:

The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen

Tiến loves his family and friends...but keeps a secret that could change everything. How can Tiến come out to his family when the words don't even exist in their first language?

As Tiến helps his mother learn English by reading her fairytales that intertwine Western and Vietnamese folklore, he hopes to find a way to write his own happy ending. Through magical illustrations and tales of distant lands, this graphic novel speaks to how stories can bring us together even when we don't know the words.

Attendees who read the book and participate in writing a letter to the author at the program will receive 3 hours of community service.

Valid Adult Longwood Public Library Card in good standing.
A maximum of three items from this collection may be borrowed at a time.
Equipment & Gadgets are available at the Adult Reference Desk and must be returned to the Circulation Desk. Gadgets placed on hold may be checked out at the at the Circulation Desk when ready for pickup. Equipment & Gadgets may not be returned to the book drop.
If any item is lost or damaged, the full value of the item will be charged to the patron account.
The library has a limited number of items in the collection; if the item comes back late or is lost, the library may not be able to honor reservations.
The use of some items may require precertification or training; if there are any precertification requirements, there will be a link in the item description to the required training.
