Event Description
Join Adult Reference librarian Carlton Welch on Zoom for a discussion of some of the entertainment available from the library. Patrons are encouraged to watch the films before attending the discussion sessions and will have an opportunity to share what they have been watching and hopefully learn about other media they can watch in the future.
Tonight we will be discussing Digital Disconnect (NR, 65 mins.). Tracing the internet’s history as a publicly funded government project in the 1960s to its full-scale commercialization today, the documentary discusses how the revolutionary, democratizing potential of the internet has been radically compromised by the growing and unaccountable power of a handful of telecom and tech monopolies. You can borrow it on Kanopy with your library card or reserve on DVD.
This program will be presented as a Zoom meeting. The URL and phone number for the meeting will be emailed to all registrants before the program.
Not sure how to use Zoom? Take a tutorial with our Tech Librarian Alison.
