Learn the sea shanties and fishmonger songs of the lives of fishermen from the deep sea to the coastal fisheries of the Northeast and Pacific Northwest of the United States, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Sicily and more. Presented by Stephen Sanfilippo, Ph.D. in History, a retired assistant professor for maritime history at Maine Maritime Academy and Navy veteran who has spent most of his life near the waters of Long Island and the coast of downeast Maine.
This is part of the Long Island Reads 2023 event series. Long Island reads is an island-wide reading initiative bringing together readers from across Nassau and Suffolk Counties to discuss a book and participate in library-sponsored activities and events associated with it. The 2023 Long Island Reads book is Speck in the Sea: A Story of Survival and Rescue by John Aldridge and Anthony Sosinski.
