Event Description
All are welcome to celebrate Earth Day at the library! Visit our seed library, get information about nature activities, including those conducted by the Town of Brookhaven Environmental Educator Nicole Pocchiare, and learn about local marine wildlife in a touch tank provided by Cornell Cooperative Extension. Check out our Citizen Science kits and meet a few animal guests from the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank! Learn about various topics that can positively shape Earth's future, like home gardening, bee keeping, backyard chickens, and composting. We will also have recycled crafts in the Children's Department.
Participate in a plant swap where you can bring plants to share with others and pick up some new ones to take home. Swap your extra garden or house plants, cuttings, seedlings or seeds at our Earth Day Plant Swap. All plants and seeds must be healthy, pest-free and labeled. Plants can be in soil or rooted cuttings in water (please only bring pots that you are willing to part with). Bring your own bags and/or containers to carry your new green friends home. All greenery and seeds can be dropped off and swapped starting at 10:00 am.
The first 30 families or patrons to arrive will receive a special earth friendly gift!
