The Children’s Department is proud to present the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative. This national project was created to encourage parent and child bonding through reading with infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The goal is to read 1,000 books before your child enters kindergarten. If you read just one book a night, you will have read 365 in a year!
How does it work? There are two ways to participate. Get started by choosing some books from our grab-and-go book packs or make your own selections. Then, track your books on your log sheet by coloring a circle for each book you have read, or if you choose, log your books online through Beanstack. When you have reached 100 books come to the library for your first prize, a brand new paperback book! Visit the library at each 100 book milestone to celebrate and collect your prizes! Once you and your child have completed 1,000 books, you will receive your very own 1000 Books Before Kindergarten tote bag and a hardcover book!
Stop by the Children’s Department to sign up, get your starter bag and begin your 1000 Books Before Kindergarten journey!
